Submariner
Location: >>Rolex>>SubmarinerThe first Submariner appeared in 1954 and is sold with an Oyster bracelet and in a 40mm case and in the case of the steel model, came with a black dial. The Submariner has a common single direction rotating bezel with minute markers for the first 15 minutes.
In terms of historical interest, the original models are often referred to as "James Bond" models (as they were worn by Sean Connery in the first four films). The early models had a smaller crown, no crown guard and the bezel only had minute markers every 5 minutes. The 1970’s saw the fitting of a quick set feature to all Submariners (and many other models).
The more significant update came with the transitional model 16800 that was produced between 1979 and 1988, which featured a sapphire crystal, a new dial and a rating of 330m (1,000 feet). It was all change again in 1989, when the 16610 was introduced with a improved movement and a more secure anti-clockwise rotating bezel.
